Gorgeous Vintage Japanese Woman Doll - a one-of-a-kind treasure!

What makes this doll so special?

Completely handmade, her body is created from fabric-wrapped wire. The fabric is covered with thin silk, much like women's hosiery. As the silk forms over the doll's features it takes on the appearance of netting. Dolls from this period, made with the wire-fabric-silk method became popularly known in the 1950s post-occupation Japan as stockinette dolls. With the metal frame allowing a small amount of limb positioning, she is also known as pose dolls. Moreover, she is a sumptuous model of culture and heritage.

Affixed standing on an 8" x7" x 1" black lacquer platform at 18" high, she is taller than most other dolls of similar quality and age. The grand elegance of this statuesque doll does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

She is a beauty from the top of her sewn in black silk chonmage, adorned a sharp gold metal Kanzashi, to her delicate narrow foot peeking from below the hem of her kimono.

Her face is exquisitely sculptured and hand-painted. (Those eyes!)

Her yellow floral and crane print silk kimono is wrapped with a black, gold, and red obi. Her necking reveals six of the traditional twelve layers of a juni-hitoe kimono. The remaining six layers are visible in the sleeves of her overcoat.

The red and gold geometric floral Hikizuri shows the pointed sleeve tips of her blue, yellow, and white undergarments. She poses absolutely regally in this trailing robe.


The attention to detail on this doll is exceptional. Any collector would be happy to have this impeccable model of feminine excellence in their assemblage.
