This beautiful example of mid-century Moriage Transferware is simply stunning.
Larger than most egg-shaped vases of the same period the vase measures 6 1/4" h x 4 1/2" diameter. 
The porcelain shell is lifted by three Louis XIV feet.
The pale pink base adds soft and romantic color to offset the vividly colored pink wild rose transfer that encircles the vase.
The hand-painted white and gold highlights add texture and dimension. 
The additional layered applications that create the texture and raised effects, and the applied curved feet, define the style of pottery decorating known as Moriage. 

As determined by the marking 3H3199/L this vase was created in Japan for Napco. Distributed by National Potteries in Cleveland, Ohio, this vase dates to the mid-1950's when Japanese ceramic imports were at their peak of post-war popularity, The style, size, colors, layered Moriage application, and makers mark support my estimation that this item was created between 1955 and 1957. 

Popular in the 1950s as a centerpiece, with or without fresh flowers, the egg vase has a variety of uses today. On a dresser or vanity table, wouldn't this be lovely holding a collection of long hat pins and hair sticks? It is beautiful for an Easter decoration. For year-long display, it would be eye-catching in a curio cabinet for its size, color and design, footed base and 'cracked egg' top. Of course, it could hold a bouquet of tea roses or other small, lightweight, short stem flowers. 

Exquisite condition inside and out! No known chips, cracks, crazing, paint wear or discoloration.
