Originally published in 1944, this book is a 1951 edition.

Steig was a well-known cartoonist, artist, illustrator and writer. His work was featured in The New Yorker as early in his career as 1930. Mid-century, his artwork included the Small Fry children. His depictions of the life of the city child Small Fry are as relevant as the work of Norman Rockwell and Charles Schultz. His later works included the picture book Shrek which was adapted by Dreamworks for the animated movie Shrek. At age 95, Mr. Steig passed in 2003.

There is damage to this book's exterior spine as seen in the photos 
However, the interior of this book is exceptional - no marks, tears, dog ears.
